Lima celebrates its birthday on January 18th ( 475 years since its foundation) and normally the City Hall organizes many events (concerts, exhibitions, etc.) in the downtown area (Plaza de Armas, Plaza San Martin).

‘ICPNA’ ART GALLERY – MIRAFLORES: ‘Percepciones – María Cecilia Piazza 1975 – 2010’ is a very interesting photo exhibition, which includes her experience as a photo reporter for different local magazines, as well as photos taken in La Habana and Irak. Av. Angamos 160, Tuesday to Sunday 11:00 am – 8:00 pm. Until January 23 (new closing date). Free.

‘CENTRO CULTURAL UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA’ – SAN ISIDRO: The Calder exhibition showing his very first drawings goes on until January 20. Mon-Sun 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. Free. Starting on January 20 it will be possible to watch the best films of 2010.

‘MALI – MUSEO DE ARTE DE LIMA’ – DOWNTOWN: Exhibition about ‘Los Funerales de Atahualpa’, important painting of the XIX century, including also the techniques for its restoration. You can also appreciate 2 interesting MALI collections: modern art pieces and Pre-Columbian textiles.

‘CENTRO CULTURAL DE ESPAÑA’ – SANTA BEATRIZ: The 6 best films of 2010 according to ‘Godard’ Film Magazine. January 11 – January 20. Free.

‘AMARANTO’ ART GALLERY – BARRANCO: Last days for visiting one of the bests art expositions in town. Local artist Ricardo Wiesse presents ‘Pieles’, art pieces that represent the Ica dunes using different techniques. Ayacucho 269, Barranco, close to the Bridge of Sighs. Until January 9th. Free.
