Carlos Morelli’s background

Carlos Morelli Samanez is the creator and manager of Insidelima. He followed studies in architecture and urban planning in Lima (Ricardo Palma University) and in Venice (Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia – IUAV). He also studied cinema in the ‘Centro de Estudios de Cine y TV Robles Godoy’ (Lima) and participated in the meetings of ‘Ipotesi Cinema’ (Bassano, Italy). Being interested in the representation of cities, he wrote an article about Cities in Novels, going deeper in the case of Lima (‘Co-textes’ n. 34, Paul Valéry University, Montpellier, France). He wrote 2 scripts about Venice, a documentary one and a fiction one, with which he participated in the Cinecittá Short Contest. In October 2002 he received the ‘Hubert Bals Fund’ award from the Rotterdam International Film Festival in the category Script and Project Development for a creative documentary project about Lima. After 10 years living in Italy he came back to Lima, having a new perception of the city, in which his external point of view is mixed with the local one. In April 2004, during the first ‘Bienal Nacional de Cine y Video’, he organises a discussion about the relations between Cinema and Cities, touching specially the case of Lima. In 2003 and 2004 he worked as correspondent of the cinema magazine ‘Butaca’ at the BAFICI Festival (Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente). In March 2005 his Lima documentary project is selected to participate in the ‘Buenos Aires Talent Campus’. Living in Peru, he started to work in tourism (Minka Fair Trade Itineraries). After some years working as a tour guide he decided to open Insidelima, a kind of tour agency that pretends to show the real city in an interdisciplinary way. Through this agency Carlos Morelli resumes all his experiences regarding Lima, offering a vivid contact with the actual city and also with its representations. According to Insidelima, the different representations of the city (literature, films, art, etc.) work as filters that help us to better understand this place.
